Release Notes

Note on the r7000+ releases — Version 3.0 BETA

The r7000+ releases of MailMate are the first to require macOS 11.0 (the previous requirement was 10.12) and this is why the version number has been bumped to 3.0. The revision number has also been bumped to r7000+ to clearly separate the 2.x and 3.x releases. Finally, the release notes included with MailMate have been reset to only include what comes after revision r7000, but the old release notes are still available here. There are currently no release notes describing what was changed between r6292 and r7000, but I wrote a bit about the lack of intermediary test releases in this mailing list post.

Revision 7027 (Tuesday, September 1, 2026)

• Fixed: Embedding HTML did not work when needed for forwarding/replying HTML messages (in recent releases).
• Changed: Full width background coloring is back for embedded/signature segments.
• Changed: Minor improvements to handling pasted content.

Revision 7026 (Saturday, August 29, 2026)

Important: If you rely on exporting full messages as part of a mailbox rule action then you should review the resulting files. Unfortunately, the r7000+ test releases (the past few months) include a bug in this functionality. It does not affect other ways to export full messages (menu item or drag&drop).

• Fixed: Exporting .eml files when using rules did not work correctly. The root headers were not included in the resulting files.

Revision 7025 (Friday, August 28, 2026)

• Changed: The composer handles (visual) reflowing a bit more efficiently.
• Changed: Re-implemented how email generation (and other use cases) work with scripts based on JavaScript.
• Changed: Complex email generation should be faster (and probably more robust) now.
• Changed: Simplified code related to HTML generation when creating/viewing messages.
• Fixed: Issue where syntax highlighting would some times break updating of the composer window.
• Fixed: Visual glitches in the composer including when opening it or enabling the preview (both implicitly and explicitly).
• Fixed: Conversion of HTML to plain text (markdown) when only HTML is available in the replied/forwarded message.

Revision 7024 (Thursday, July 23, 2026)

• Fixed: General composer issue with various side effects -- including a blank text view glitch when enabling/disabling the preview.
• Fixed: Truncation issue with popup menus on macOS 27.
• Fixed: Gracefully handling old settings using the deprecated #source-name virtual header.

Revision 7023 (Tuesday, July 21, 2026)

• Changed: Disabled code which was probably too smart when putting text on the pasteboard leading to some unintended security issues.
• Fixed: On macOS 27, the button for adding attachments did not work.
• Fixed: Minor visual change for the background of the add button in a draft.
• Fixed: A draft related issue with various side-effects including a wrong placement of attachments when viewing recently created drafts.
• Fixed: Crash issue triggered by not validating the encoding of raw headers before displaying a message.
• Fixed: A rare IMAP authentication issue could crash MailMate.

Revision 7022 (Sunday, July 19, 2026)

• Fixed: Crash bug related to bundle commands using the inputFilesPattern.
• Fixed: Incorrect visual update when removing all attachments from a message.
• Fixed: Minor issue updating message list while handling incoming messages.
• Fixed: Proper fix for the cross message reference issue.

• Fixed: Workaround for non-reproducible issue displaying inline images.

Revision 7020 (Wednesday, July 15, 2026)

• Fixed: Issues adding/removing multiple tags in the tagging text field (on macOS 27).
• Fixed: Issue using comma to commit a tag name in the tagging text field.

Revision 7019 (Wednesday, July 15, 2026)

• Changed: Multiple messages with SMTP sending issues can now be displayed simultaneously (instead of one by one).
• Fixed: The composer window could some times crash when reporting a sending issue.
• Fixed: Race condition when initializing TLS connections.

Revision 7018 (Tuesday, July 14, 2026)

• Changed: Issue saving/viewing attachments related to incorrect debugging code.
• Fixed: Attaching an email could fail/crash the composer when using the preview.

Revision 7017 (Friday, July 3, 2026)

• Fixed: A minor/rare issue related to the default security protocol when opening a draft.
• Fixed: A couple of issues with the “Remove Attachments” menu item.

Revision 7016 (Thursday, July 2, 2026)

• Changed: Slightly better handling when OAuth2 server authentication repeatedly fails.
• Fixed: Issue triggered when deleting a mailbox in multiple email clients and/or server-side.
• Fixed: In some cases, MailMate would incorrectly try to break a non-existing IMAP IDLE connection.

Revision 7015 (Wednesday, July 1, 2026)

• Changed: The Network framework enabled by default (instead of CFNetwork).
• Fixed: Issue re-opening composer windows on launch.
• Fixed: Crash related to exporting attachments.
• Fixed: Issue with emate where some options worked badly when combined with attachments.
• Fixed: Issue related to synchronizing a deleted mailbox.

Revision 7014 (Monday, June 29, 2026)

I've verified that MailMate appears to work on the recently released macOS 27 developer beta.

• Changed: Various minor changes in order to compile with the Xcode 27 Beta.
• Fixed: A somewhat crude macOS 26/27 icon has been added. (I'm still, primarily, using macOS 15.x myself.)

• Fixed: The r7011 update broke various key bindings.

• Fixed: Various similar issues related to messages being displayed while also being permanently deleted.

• New: Key binding selectors for doing searches based on selected message(s): searchForString: and searchAllMessagesForString:
• Changed: Various changes needed for (eventually) improving the general performance/robustness of parsing/handling message headers.
• Fixed: A broken workaround for (typically older) servers not proving UID when moving messages (this has been broken for quite some time).

Revision 7010 (Monday, June 15, 2026)

Note: Some of the revisions before r7009 were very unstable for some users. It appears r7009 (and r7010) are doing much better, but they have only been tested by a small number of users. Please continue to report any issues you have via “Help > Send Feedback”.

• Changed: Added general note about the r7000+ releases (above these release notes).
• Changed: Minor optimization to loading headers from the database.
• Changed: Various other minor changes.

• Fixed: Issue with adding an attachment when signing and/or encrypting a message is enabled.

• Changed: Preparing a (large) message for sending is now more efficient.
• Fixed: Major bugs in the very recent optimizations related to copying parts of messages.
• Fixed: Some messages could not be viewed because of a bug in the previous update.
• Fixed: Old bug resulting in cached (viewed) attachments not being deleted on disk when the corresponding message was (permanently) deleted.

• Changed: Opening drafts should now be faster for complex/large messages.

• Fixed: The recent fix which did not properly fix an issue with saving a draft while also viewing the message in a separate window.
• Fixed: Some more issues constructing new messages.
• Fixed: Issues with the (recently more efficient) handling of embedded encrypted messages.

Revision 7005 (Wednesday, June 10, 2026)

• Changed: Adding existing messages/attachments to new messages is more efficient because it no longer requires analyzing/parsing twice (also potential for new bugs though).
• Changed: Refactored code to handle options when saving attachments.
• Fixed: “Edit as New Message” could not handle attachments at all in r7000+ releases.
• Fixed: Various issues copying messages (both explicitly or via rule/bundle actions).
• Fixed: Some tricky crash bugs related to viewing a draft while also editing/saving it in a composer window.

• Fixed: Crash bug related to sending messages without opening a composer window.
• Fixed: Crash bug related to rules copying messages.

Revision 7003 (Wednesday, June 3, 2026)

• Changed: Refactored code related to atomically handling saved files.
• Fixed: Crash bug related to removing an account containing non-uploaded drafts.
• Fixed: Very minor virtual header deletion issue.

Revision 7002 (Sunday, May 31, 2026)

• Fixed: Crash related to replying/forwarding when the selected messages has not recently been viewed.
• Fixed: Crash bug related to creating a message when the hint to a default sender/account is a non-displayed message.
• Fixed: Crash related to exporting messages or parts of messages as part of a rule action.
• Fixed: Some OAuth2 issues would not generate an error string (mainly a problem when debugging).

Revision 7001 (Thursday, May 28, 2026)

• Changed: While asynchronously verifying an OpenPGP message and it “hangs” (for some reason) then the available output includes the command line used (which can be useful for debugging).
• Changed: Minor optimization when adding messages to the database.
• Changed: Minor optimization when adding/fetching a large number of messages.
• Fixed: Redirection of messages did not work at all.
• Fixed: A minor issue when creating a new account without first trying to search for settings.
• Fixed: Some date-releated virtual headers were not properly deleted when deleting a message with message attachments.

Revision 7000 (Tuesday, May 26, 2026) — Version 3.0 BETA

This is a major update including all changes since the most recent test release (September 24, 2025). All of these changes have only been tested by the developer. Note that no detailed release notes have been written (yet).
